This makes me air sick every time I watch it.
First desert race of the season coming up this weekend on Sunday. VORRA’s Yerington 300. VORRA released the GPS track of the course that everyone plugs into their in-car GPS units. They beat me to the punch this time and rejiggered it to Google Earth’s KMZ format. I take that file, load it in Google Earth and fly the course on a little Dell Mini sitting next to my Mac. Over and over and over. Gives me a feel for the course in the event I have to do some co-driving.
If you’re so inclined, here’s how you do it.
1. Download the Yerington 300 KMZ file.
2. Load it in Google Earth.
3. Click on the triangle to the left of Temporary Places.
4. Click on the triangle to the left of GPS device.
5. Click on the triangle to the left of Tracks.
6. Click on the triangle to the left of Trail 1.
7. Click on Path.
8. Look down toward the bottom of the left column for a little icon of three diamonds connected by a line. Click the triangle to the right of that icon.
It’s just that simple. If you’re a total nerd, you can bump up the flight speed by selecting Google Earth Preferences, click on the Touring tab, and plug 269 into the Speed box.
Window nets arrived from McKenzie’s today. I charging the batteries on the new GoPros because someone forgot to after the NORRA 1000. Crusty’s wrapping up wiring and electronics in 1107 2.0. I’m dropping off the hood and six fenders after work. Still need to track down a truck and trailer to get us to Yerington. I need a miracle.

Nice google earth map. I made it to check point 1 in record time. Something like 3.2 seconds 🙂
