Desert Dingo Racing

Category: 2009 Baja 1000

  • Already planning our invite list for Baja 1000 2010

Robby Gordon and Desert Dingos mentioned in the same sentence is probably about as close as we’ll ever get to each other in Baja.

Ryan McGee isn’t just a great NASCAR writer. He’s a great writer in general and I love reading his stories in ESPN Magazine and on ESPN Online. He’s actually at the top of my RSS feed. He was even kind enough to do an online piece on us during our second attempt at tht 1000 last  year.

I was hoping he’d be able to accompany us this year, but a little thing called The Chase precluded it. Next year, however, for sure. Because you don’t know racing until you’ve had a chorizo pizza the size of a car hood delivered by some guy on a motorcycle.

  • Baja 1000 prep begins

We’re building the workshop around 1107.

Lots of running around to do today with last minute stuff for the Baja 1000. Here’s some shots from the past couple of days.

  • Dump cans on their way

You can find these at floral supply wholesalers everywhere.

Sometime around noon today I’ll be heading over to San Jose to pick up these three dump cans being loaned to us by Pepper and Tut Cote of Tut Tech Racing. Pepper, who I met through TrailGlow founder Paul Lukey, races a Sportsman Class 13 in the Mojave Offroad Racing Enthusiasts (MORE) series. I mentioned offhand that I was looking to find some of those fast-fill dump cans “like the NASCAR guys use” and a day later three of them that they have were being shipped to an associate’s floral supply wholesaler in San Jose for us to use at the Baja 1000.

Prep on the car continues. I also expect to pick up one of the configured sat comm units from Mike Aquino, our chief electronics guy.

  • Home at last

Sweet crickets, 1107 is finally home. Now the real work begins.

PLYCAR dropped 1107 off just after 12:30 p.m. today to the welcoming committee of Crusty and me. I drove it back up to Richard and Crusty and Scott are on the case. We’ve got six days to prep the car before departing for Mexico. It’ll be tight, but we should be fine.

KION published a piece on us on their website: “Felton Race Team Competes in the Baja 1000.” You can read it here.

  • Thanks to Diabetes1.org for supporting our 12seconds.tv project

    The ad running on Diabetes1.org.

I wanted to take a moment to thank the team at Diabetes1.org for helping us spread the word on our project with 12seconds.tv. They’re running an ad on their home page promoting our project where people can record 12 second long videos describing how diabetes has affected them. We’ll be sporting the Diabetes1 logo on the car at the Baja 1000 and throughout the 2010 race season.

You can read more about the project and upload your own video here.

Thanks to everyone at the Diabetes1.org. We appreciate your support.
