  • Rugged Radios Sponsoring Desert Dingo Racing for 2011 Season

This is Greg Cottrell of Rugged Radios, saving our bacon on the way down to the Baja 1000 in 2008.

I met Greg on our way down to the Baja 1000 back in 2008. Richard had an issue with his comm system and we pulled in to Greg’s shop in San Luis Obispo to have it looked at. I recall Greg had it fixed in something like five seconds.

I got in touch recently to find out whether he could fix our four year old race radio – the face fell off it at our last race of the season. Not good. We got to talking, one thing led to another and Greg has signed on to support our race effort for 2011, outfitting 1107 with a state of the art comm system that I’m confident will allow us to communicate with race teams on other planets.

Here’s the press release I put together on his sponsorship. I’m really looking forward to working with Greg and his team.

  • Class 11 pile up

There’s gotta be $500 worth of VWs out there.

We raced SNORE in 2009. The Rage at the River Race is a big draw for Class 11s. This is what happens when there’s a pile up. We got rained out for working on the car this weekend. Will hit it hard next weekend. Press release goes out tomorrow.

  • We make a cameo appearance in the “35 Years of VORRA” video

I’m still working on figuring out how to photograph our second place season trophy, because it’s crystal clear and pretty much invisible every time I’ve photographed it.

Until I sort that out, here’s a video put together by Charlene Bower of Bower Motorsports Media for the VORRA awards ceremony a week ago in Lake Tahoe. Congrats to Two Larrys Racing for taking the win and to Bob Messer for taking the inaugural Bug Invasion trophy.

If it ever stops raining, we’ll pull the rest of the equipment out of 1107 this weekend. I’ll be issuing a press release on Monday on a new sponsor. But that’s Monday. Sunday is NBC’s coverage of the Baja 1000. The teaser is below.

  • Dingo at rest

For anyone who thinks racing is cool, you should come hang out with us when we’re pulling an engine in the rain.

Bob, Crusty, Scott and I pulled 1107’s engine this past weekend. In the rain. Shocks, too. Bob will sort out the engine seal leak. Shocks go off to Bilstein for a rebuild. Radio pulled to figure out why the face fell off.

The next couple of weeks will be spent gutting 1107 to begin a rebuild that will let us incorporate lessons learned from three years of racing. More to come.
