Desert Dingo Racing

  • If this is the worst that happens, we should be fine

Skid works on something on the car.

A quick update. Driving down we blew an engine in Crusty’s pickup. Lefty and TPR rode in like the calvary the following morning with coffee, hooked up 1104 and the trailer and got us down to Orange County. After a quick reconnoiter, we headed down to the Wal-Mart in Chula Vista, were eventually joined by Chase 2 towing 1104. From there we caravanned down to Ensenada and the Estero Beach RV park where we are now.

Some shots of Monday and Tuesday’s adventure.

  • El Jeffo has our back

We get by with a little help from our friends.

Jef Holmes, who has a house in Pete’s Camp just outside San Felipe, comes through for us again this year, offering The Scout for chase support on the southern stretch of the Baja 1000. His report:

The Scout is good to go.  It just got a new radiator and lots of love last time I was there, and seems in good shape.  I will have to be the driver since it has some secret buttons and levers.  But I’m in.  I plan on doing the bottom half of the course on my bike or the scout in the next couple of weeks. We have wifi and dsl at the house now, as well as BBQ and lots of tequila.  Yee Ha!

By the time we hit San Felipe, I’ll be ready for that tequila.

  • Future home of Desert Dingo Racing

    Heavy metal parking garage.

Richard, Scott, Crusty and Skid met earlier today to erect the frame of a workshop in Richard’s back yard that will soon be the new home of Desert Dingo Racing. The frame is up, as is the primary structure for the overhead crane (Did we mention we’ll have an overhead crane? Yes, we will.)

The rush is to get the workshop enclosed by Thanksgiving because apparently Richard is having dinner for 30 in it. After that, it’s all ours. (I’m contributing a very cool Bilstein racing calendar).

Photos from today’s barn raising are here.

  • BF Goodrich Nation of Go team makes us look gooood

You should see the outtakes and bloopers reel.

As previously mentioned, BF Goodrich’s Nation of Go team stopped by Sunday afternoon while most of us were standing around watching body-and-paint man Shawn Kovach-Long paint 1107.

Roxanne made a nice chili, because, as everyone knows, a race team marches on its stomach.

We talked about their project, we talked about racing, we talked about our working with the International Diabetes Federation and raising awareness about the risks posed by diabetes. It was a great time and they’re doing a great thing. We wish them the best of luck.

Click on this cool shot of Shawn to go to Nation of Go’s Flickr set of their visit.
