Sparks fly in advance of VORRA’s 24 hour desert endurance race

Romy puts the finishing touches on 1107’s rhinoplasty.

Full day of work yesterday with Romy, Bob, Crusty and me. The rebuilt engine is in. Crusty and Romy focused on getting the new front clip fitted and installed. I chased down some electrical issues and cleaned up some wiring. Bilstein shocks are on their way back. GPS is being repaired. Three weeks to the VORRA “The 24” desert endurance race.

Rugged Radios comm install video

We’re back from VORRA’s USA 500 and kicking the dust out of everything. Rugged Radio‘s chief of marketing, Matt, sent me a link to the video he put together covering the install of the X5500 VHF radio, VHF wide-band antenna and the RRP660 intercom.

Music via MP3 player (my iPod Shuffle full of the hits of the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s) plus a jack for my iPhone, so I can call the Green Booger on the course at night when it’s lonely and I need someone to talk to. Or order pizza.

Greg and his son, who lives with Type 1 diabetes, do great work with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. And we work with the International Diabetes Federation. We’re working to raise awareness of diabetes and support their outreach and education programs.

The comm worked flawlessly and 1107 can broadcast farther than it ever could before. This is a game changer for us.

We have a walk-on in Race-Dezert’s Yerington 300 video

Yes, that’s us using electrical tape for our race numbers. We’ll be decked out for VORRA’s USA 500, though. TrailGlow number panels and sponsor logos will likely go on the car next week.

Snow at the Yerington 300

Our buddy Dave Oram, who was first off the line at the Yerington 300, got this great video of the driving conditions the morning of the race.

We’re scheduling work on 1107, starting with Crusty going in and finishing up some welding. The car will get another coat of paint (and we’ll actually let it dry this time) and then Billy, who may actually finally drive the car after more than a year on the team) will tidy up the wiring. Then it’s off to San Luis Obispo for three days to install the new comm system from Rugged Radios.
