  • Another Class 11 joining the fray

Another Class 11 joining the fray

Is VORRA big enough for two white Class 11s? Only time will tell.

Spent an hour on the phone last night with Paul of CBCFS Racing out of San Francisco. A great guy. He and his buddy are about 95% complete on a Class 11 build that they expect to campaign in the VORRA series and take to the Baja 1000.

We’ll head up to SF later this month to check out their build and have invited them to come down to Felton to check out 1107. We’ll probably also do some practice together over at Prairie City in advance of the first VORRA race of the season. A good time will be had by all.

In other news, Romy jumped on a Craigslist ad for a free hood, free front beams, free doors for our year VW. It’s like Christmas in February.

  • 2011 VORRA class champions

    2011 VORRA class champions

VORRA hosted its annual rules meeting and awards banquet Dec. 10 at Harveys Resort & Casino in South Lake Tahoe. While I wasn’t success in getting my rule modification “Nerf an 11, spend  night in the box” approved, we did end the evening with the First in Class for short course racing, First in Class for desert racing and 2011 Class 11 champions.

It’s been almost four years to the day that I went to the local video store and rented “Dust to Glory“, pretty much the only DVD we hadn’t seen. Ten minutes into it I turned to Roxanne and said “I have to do this.” The cool thing that came out of this is it wasn’t me at all, but a tremendously smart, talented and driven team of friends, friends of friends, total strangers and our sponsors who got us to the podium this weekend.

Thank you to everyone. Who’s available in November 2012 for a peninsula run at the Baja 1000?

  • It’s official – we win the Class 11 VORRA points championship

It’s been a great year of racing.

The Valley Off Road Racing Association posted the final points compilation after Halloween weekend’s races at Prairie City. Bottom line: we got the season points championship.

We’re already planning for 2012. Thanks to everyone who helped us this year. It’s been a wild ride.

  • Two more photos from Prairie City

Dave ‘n Romy powering through the high banked turn at Prairie City.

Gah! Video editing takes forever. But one gets to see great stuff. Here are two shots from the third moto of the second day of racing at Prairie City on Halloween weekend.

This is why you keep the visor closed.

  • Blowing past a Class 9 at Prairie City

    Passing that pesky Class 9.

Working on a video from the sixth moto at Prairie City and spotted this great shot of Dave blowing past the fastest of the Class 9s on the course that weekend. I was up in the timing tower and suggested he make a run on the 9 and Dave caught him at the start of the second lap to the cheers of the folks in the bleachers.

One of the other folks in the tower came over and said “He knows he doesn’t have to race against the 9s, right?” and I said “Yeah.”

We eventually started losing power and the 9 passed us, but we made our point. Video to come.
