  • Two weeks to VORRA’s USA 500 and 1107 is coming together

I love that new car smell

It’s that smell. That new car smell. Some day this race is gonna end.

I sprayed the race seat rails this morning and drove them over to the car. Crusty worked on all the stuff he works on. With his help I got the seats installed and we mapped out the next week getting the car ready for the USA 500. He’s off to get his 1951 16-foot car hauler. I’ll be installing the GPS, dialing in the five point harnesses and repainting everything I scratched while shouting the seats into place. I came home and spray painted our new rims, courtesy of Bob Russell. They will sport the World Diabetes Day blue circle.

I’m dropping off some new tires with the rims at Dixon & Son Tires tomorrow. They’ve supported us since Day One. An interesting meeting will happen in the next week.

    Here are our new rims.

Gearbox Magazine editor Brian Driggs got it in his head that it might be interesting to do a piece on Desert Dingo Racing. We bounced emails back and forth and this is the result. I love my Stig shirt.

Desert Dingo: A True Story of “Dust to Glory”

There probably isn’t a gearhead on the planet who hasn’t watched that flick and thought, “OMG. I wanna do that.” Jim Graham is one such gearhead, and OMG. He actually went out and did that.

  • How many people can you fit in a VW Bug?

Thanks to everyone who took part in out Twitter project to promote World Diabetes Day.

In the weeks leading up to the Baja 1000, we asked folks on Twitter to post a message that included @DesertDingo and #WDD09. The former is our Twitter account, the latter is the hashtag to identify messages relating to World Diabetes Day.

We got a great response and using the latest in communications technology, I printed out everyones’ names, slipped them into a plastic sleeve and used blue painter’s masking tape to affix them to the ceiling of 1104.

So, thanks to everyone who participated. You can honestly say you made 183 miles in the 2009 Baja 1000.
