  • We’re “Miss March” in Gear Centre Group’s 2011 calendar

Thankfully, the staples don’t endanger anything sensitive.

Turn ons: Dr. Ferdinand Porsche, winning and world peace.

It’s a good thing we added a Canadian to the team or I’d have a hard time explaining why a two-wheel-drive VW bug was included in Canada’s own Gear Centre Group 4×4 Club calendar for 2011. Come to think of it, 1107 has been to Canada. So I only have to explain away the non-4WD part.

We’re in great company and these folks do things with their rigs that I only have nightmares about. You can download the calendar for free here.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it and am honored. Paul Hartl will buy you the first round of drinks.

  • Who I’m tracking live at the 2010 Baja 1000

Nine time Baja 1000 winner Eric Solorzano saving our bacon, yet again.

Roger Norman – TT No. 8
Very good guy. Community oriented. Does the occasional VORRA race. Has never nerfed us. Also runs TrailGlow (our sponsor) illuminated number panels. First off the line and iron-manning the whole race. Pre-ran something like 5,000 miles.

Robby Gordon – TT No. 1
I’m pretty sure it’s in the U.S. Constitution that you have to follow Robby Gordon.

Josh Hall – TT No. 61
A new TT by Baja Legend Rod Hall. Should be interesting to see how it does.

    Torchmate Racing – No. 601
Torchmate created the super heavy trophy we got for winning the inaugural Xtreme Outlaws 250 Reno race that’s sitting on my desk. They race VORRA.

Emily Sturgess Miller – Stock Full H1 Alpha No. 861
Racing an H1 Alpha Hummer. Does Gazelles.

    Rod Hall
He’s doing seat time in the new trophy truck (#61) and and the H1 Alpha (#861). He’s in Wikipedia under “badass.”

Dennis Webb & Yolo Racing – 5/1600 Baja Bug No. 554
We’ve hung out at a previous 1000. They’re Canadian. Cool guys.

Sarabia Aja – Class 5/1600 Baja Bug No. 1645
Sarabia races with Felipe (see below). He and I yammer like little old ladies via Instant Messenger. He’s co-dogging the first 385 miles or thereabouts. Drivers are Hector Sarabia, Eliseo Garcia and Federico Montes.

Felipe Neri Sanchez & Turtle Speed Racing – No. 1214
We’ve raced against Felipe in SNORE. He and his team are great people. They beat us.

    All the Class 11s, natch
Eric Solorzano, mentor and arch rival – No. 1100
    Scott Wisdom – No. 1103
    Matt Cullen – No. 1102
    Alfonso Lacerra – No. 1101

  • Pre-running the Xtreme Outlaws 250

Since I forgot to turn the camera on for the actual race, here’s video of us pre-running the Xtreme Outlaws 250. Cursed road hooligan Weasel in the red Petfinder Class 11 cuts in front of us without signaling, then we promptly get stuck in the silt and get towed out by a Hummer. Then Roger Norman in the No. 8 trophy truck blows our doors off.

Team meeting tonight. Two page agenda.

  • We officially win Stock Bug class at the Xtreme Outlaws 250

I hadn’t previously mentioned how gorgeous the course was with wildflowers blooming everywhere. Photo courtesy Trevor Piggott.

We got word last night that we officially were awarded first place for the inaugural Xtreme Outlaws 250. (There’d been a question on whether our going out to the first checkpoint on the second lap counted. It did.) Our second win in a row and it keeps us in first place in season points.

Post race team meeting set for tomorrow night. We always try to do them while the race is fresh in our minds. Next up, the Fallon 250 night race July 16-18.

Trevor Piggott and Jason Baden with Reno Off-Road Motorsports sent over some photos they got of 1107 on the course. You can check ’em out here.

  • Scenes from an outlaw race

There must be $500 worth of VWs out there!

Finally got caught up on sleep and paperwork and stuff. Here’s a collection of shots by Pepper Cote of Tut Tech Racing and me. Check ’em out.

Thank you Tut and Pepper for insanely driving 10 hours just to hang out with us in a dirt overflow parking lot outside Reno.
