  • If this is the worst that happens, we should be fine

Skid works on something on the car.

A quick update. Driving down we blew an engine in Crusty’s pickup. Lefty and TPR rode in like the calvary the following morning with coffee, hooked up 1104 and the trailer and got us down to Orange County. After a quick reconnoiter, we headed down to the Wal-Mart in Chula Vista, were eventually joined by Chase 2 towing 1104. From there we caravanned down to Ensenada and the Estero Beach RV park where we are now.

Some shots of Monday and Tuesday’s adventure.

  • Countdown to departure for the Baja 1000

We (ok, Richard), needed to modify our light bar to accommodate the bigger TrailGlow HID lights we’ll be running for the first time at the Baja 1000.

Among other things we accomplished yesterday: Modified the light bar to accommodate the larger TrailGlow HIDs, fabbed two rear view mirror nerf bars, installed a smaller fisheye rear view mirror in the car, chased down a short circuit in the electrical system, tweaked the rear skid plate to make it go in easier, hammered out and painted a new passenger front fender, organized the tool bags and spare parts bins, futzed with the GPS unit and eventually loaded the low-res SCORE GPS data in it, ate Roxanne’s pound cake, wired the pit signs, welded up the spare front end.

Today, more of the same. Tomorrow we head out.

A handful of photos from Saturday’s work.

  • Baja 1000 prep begins

We’re building the workshop around 1107.

Lots of running around to do today with last minute stuff for the Baja 1000. Here’s some shots from the past couple of days.

  • Thanks to Diabetes1.org for supporting our 12seconds.tv project

    The ad running on Diabetes1.org.

I wanted to take a moment to thank the team at Diabetes1.org for helping us spread the word on our project with 12seconds.tv. They’re running an ad on their home page promoting our project where people can record 12 second long videos describing how diabetes has affected them. We’ll be sporting the Diabetes1 logo on the car at the Baja 1000 and throughout the 2010 race season.

You can read more about the project and upload your own video here.

Thanks to everyone at the Diabetes1.org. We appreciate your support.

  • Setting up operations at Estero Beach RV Park

What could be more perfect than a beachfront RV park with its own race track?

We head to Mexico a week from tomorrow. We’ll all meet in the Wal-Mart parking lot and cross the border. Eric Solorzano has his shop set up in the Barnyard in Rosarita Beach. We’ll likely stop there on our way to the Estero Beach RV Park, which comes with its own dirt race track where we hope to do some tweaking.

If you’ve got Google Earth, this .kmz file has waypoints for the Barnyard, the RV park and race track, the Baja 1000 start/finish line and the entry into the wash.

All I want for my birthday tomorrow is a race car. The trucking company is assuring me it will be here “no later than Tuesday.”
